App protection

Give distracting apps a clear boundary.

Protect selected apps during a focus session, on a schedule or after a daily usage limit. Learn which boundary suits your routine and how to set it without blocking the tools your task needs.

When a quick check keeps interrupting the task

You may open a social app to check one thing and return to your work much later. A useful boundary makes that decision visible at the moment it matters. The goal is to protect a particular task or period, not to make every use of your phone feel wrong.

Separate distracting apps from tools you actually need: a reference browser, transport app or family communication may serve a different purpose. Choose a small selection first so that the rule remains practical.

Choose a schedule or a daily limit

A schedule protects time you already know you want to keep. A daily limit addresses the total use of selected apps across the day.

  1. Use a fixed schedule for a study hour, a work block or a chosen evening window.
  2. Use a daily limit when short visits add up even though no single session feels long.
  3. For a one-off task, choose Protection on the Focus screen instead of creating a recurring rule.
  4. Review essential access and the rule’s exit settings before committing to stronger restrictions.

Create the boundary in Aheno

Grant Screen Time access when asked; protection cannot work without it. Then use the reachable rule controls.

  1. Open Protections and choose New rule.
  2. Choose Schedule or Daily limit, then select applications or websites with Apple’s picker.
  3. Set the days and active hours, or choose the daily usage threshold.
  4. Review protection strength and temporary access. Hold Save rule when the setup is correct.

A study window with useful apps available

For a 19:00–20:00 revision period, protect the social and entertainment apps that most often interrupt you. Keep the calculator, reference material and necessary messages out of that selection. Try the basic schedule first; adjust it if you discover that a needed tool is unavailable.

Know what happens when you need to leave

Basic blocking, fixed schedules and daily limits are Free. Pro adds sealed rules, Hard Mode and allow-only rules. iOS permission can be changed in Settings, so Aheno does not promise an impossible, unbreakable lock.

Ending a focus session does not automatically remove an independent strict rule. Hard Mode has a separate Emergency Pass: a 60-second wait and a typed confirmation can grant 15 minutes. Understand this distinction before activating a rule.

Check the boundary after using it

Ask whether the rule protected the task while preserving necessary access. If it was too broad, change the selected apps or timing before making it stricter. If protection did not apply, check Screen Time authorisation and the rule’s active window.

Does a daily limit gradually increase penalties?

No. The current daily-limit workflow applies protection at the threshold you selected. Temporary access follows that rule’s settings; it is not the older awareness, friction and cooldown ladder.

Will ending the timer unlock every protected app?

No. Session protection and independent scheduled or strict rules are different. A rule that is still active may continue to protect its apps after a session ends.

Can I use basic blocking without Pro?

Yes. Basic app blocking, fixed schedules and daily limits are Free. Pro is needed for sealed rules, Hard Mode, allow-only protection and supported advanced automation.
