Focus sessions

Make the next task small enough to begin.

Aheno’s focus timer for iPhone gives one task a chosen duration, an optional intention and selected-app protection. The basic timer is Free and keeps its fixed end time when you leave the app; background sound requires Pro.

When starting feels harder than the work

A focus timer sets aside a defined period for one activity. In Aheno, choose the duration on Focus, select distracting apps under Protection and optionally name an Intention before starting. It structures the attempt; completing the countdown does not establish the quality of the work.

“Study” or “finish the project” may be too large to start. A focus session works better when the next action is visible: solve three problems, outline a section or read a short passage. The timer gives that action a beginning and an end.

Pick a duration you can realistically attempt today. Aheno offers sessions from 5 to 180 minutes, but longer is not automatically better. Leave room for a break and a review of the result.

Prepare a session you can actually use

Spend a moment arranging the task before starting. This keeps setup from consuming the focus time.

  1. Put the material you need within reach and name one concrete outcome.
  2. Decide which apps interrupt that outcome and which apps are necessary for it.
  3. Choose a manageable duration and a place to pause between sessions.
  4. If you use sound, pick a mix that supports your work and keeps important signals audible.

Start from the Focus screen

The basic timer and session protection are Free. Review your choices before the session begins.

  1. Open Focus and adjust the duration.
  2. Open Protection and choose the applications to protect.
  3. Optionally set an Intention, Focus mode and Sound mix.
  4. Choose Start focus. Deep mode uses Hold to start.

A 25-minute outline, with a clear finish

Set the intention “Draft the introduction,” protect the apps you tend to open out of habit and start 25 minutes. When the session ends, check the outline rather than judging the whole day. Take a break, then choose whether the next useful action deserves another session.

Understand background behaviour and leaving

The session uses a fixed end time and continues outside Aheno. A Live Activity can show progress on supported devices when enabled. Free sound playback is for the foreground; background or locked-screen audio requires Pro. Free includes 10 tracks, up to three simultaneous layers and three saved mixes. Pro opens the full catalogue, up to five layers and 20 saved mixes. The timer and app protection continue separately.

There is no Pause button in the current session workflow. Flexible sessions offer End focus; other modes offer Request safety exit. The exit asks for a reason and confirmation, then completes immediately. Independent protection rules may still remain active.

Use the result to choose the next session

If the duration felt too long, shorten the next attempt. If you completed the outcome early, note that success rather than adding work just to fill time. Review your accumulated focus progress with NOA and build a rhythm that fits your actual day.

How do I start a focus session in Aheno?

Open Focus, choose a duration, then use Protection to select distracting apps. Add an optional Intention or Sound mix and choose Start focus; Deep mode uses Hold to start. The basic timer and session protection are Free. Screen Time authorisation is required for app protection.

Can I pause a running focus session?

The current workflow has no Pause control. You can leave deliberately with End focus or Request safety exit, depending on the mode, and confirm a reason. Set a shorter duration before starting if you expect interruptions.

Does locking my screen stop the timer?

No. The timer uses a fixed end time. Live Activity availability depends on your device and settings. Sound is a separate entitlement: Free audio is foreground-only; Pro supports background and locked-screen playback.

Does a safety exit require a 60-second wait?

The timer’s exit completes after you provide a reason and confirm. The 60-second wait belongs to the separate Emergency Pass for Hard Mode protection rules.
