When switching tasks consumes the work period
Writing, coding and careful reading often need time to establish context. Repeated checks can make you return to the same paragraph or decision without moving forward. Before starting, decide what a useful result would look like for this particular block.
Protecting apps supports that decision, but it cannot make an unclear task clear. Prepare the document, notes or project first and write the next action in plain terms.
Create a block with a visible finish
Arrange the work before adding stronger restrictions.
- Choose an output such as an outline, a tested function or a reviewed section.
- Collect the material and keep necessary work or communication tools accessible.
- Choose a duration that fits the task and the next fixed commitment.
- Protect the apps you tend to check, start the work and review the output at the end.
Choose a focus mode deliberately
Open Focus to set the duration, Protection and optional Intention. Choose the mode that fits your commitment; Deep mode uses Hold to start. A saved planner block uses your current Focus configuration when started.
The timer’s safety exit asks for a reason and confirmation and then completes immediately. Independent strict protection rules can continue separately, so review those rules before beginning a demanding block.
A writing block with a defined output
Instead of “work for an hour,” choose “draft the argument for section two.” Prepare your references, protect entertainment apps and begin a manageable session. At the end, read the draft and write the next action before taking a break. Add another block only if it fits the remaining day.
Distinguish commitment from impossible guarantees
The basic timer and selected-app protection are Free. Pro adds advanced protection, recurring planning, rebalancing and background sound. You can build a useful work block with the basics.
Aheno cannot prevent every interruption or guarantee a state of deep work. iOS permissions and necessary real-world access still matter. Choose stronger rules only after understanding their exit path; a timer exit is not an override for every active rule.
Repeat the useful part of the session
Afterwards, note which preparation helped and which interruption needs a different boundary. Use that information to plan the next block at a realistic time.
